Istanbul (/ˌɪstaːnˈbul/;[6][7] Turkish: İstanbul [isˈtanbuɫ] ( listen) is the most-populous city of Turkey, serving as the place of residence of over 18% of the county's inhabitants.[4] Istanbul is a transcontinental city in Europe and Asia, located between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Turkey, 64.7% of whose residents live on the European and 35.3% on the Asian side.[8]Within city limits, Istanbul has an area of between 1166[9] and 1830 km2,[10] it is the administrative center of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (coterminous with Istanbul Province), which covers an area of 5343 km2, [c] both areas hosting a population of around 14 million residents.[2] Istanbul is one of the world's most populous cities and ranks as world's 5th-largest city proper, dropping the rank to the 24th place as an urban area and to the 18th place as a metro area due to a minor difference between the population within city limits and the agglomeration.


The area had been setlled by Thracians in the late 6th millennium BC,[11] to establish the city now known as Istanbul under the name


Ligos around 3 millennia ago,[12] which developed to become one of the most significant cities in history. The town saw the presence of Phoenicia, Ancient Greece, Ancient Persia and Ancient Rome, the city was renamed and called Byzantium (Βυζάντιον Byzántion) for nearly a millennia. Following its renaming to Constantinople (Greek: Κωνσταντινούπολις Konstantinoúpolis; Latin: Constantinopolis, Ottoman Turkish: قسطنطینية, Kostantiniyye) in 330 AD, the city served as an imperial capital for the Roman (476–1204 and 1261–1453), the Latin (1204–1261), and the Ottoman (1453–1922) empires,[13] when it became the largest city in the world. It was instrumental in the advancement of Christianity during Roman and Byzantine times, before the Ottomans conquered the city in 1453 and transformed it into an Islamic stronghold and the seat of the Ottoman Caliphate.[14]

 Расте броят на жертвите и на ранените при двете мощни експлозии в турската столица Анкара тази сутрин. 30 души са загинали, а 126 са ранените до момента, властите продължават да разчистват отломките след взривовете, съобщи Ройтерс, позовавайки се на информация от министерството на вътрешните работи на Турция.

По-рано турските власти определиха случилото се като „атентат“.

Мястото на инцидента е отцепено и има засилено присъствие на полиция и екипи на спешна помощ. Взривовете станаха под надлез, водещ към гарата. Там от сутринта започнаха да се събират активисти на профсъюзни обединения и неправителствени организации, които планираха да проведат съгласуван с властите протест срещу конфликта между държавата и бойци на Кюрдската работническа партия (ПКК), съобщава в. "Хюриет".

Премиерът на Турция Ахмет Давутоглу вече е запознат с подробностите около инцидента от министъра на здравеопазването Мехмет Мюезиоглу, а по-късно през деня той трябва да се срещне и с вицепремиера Алчън Акдоган и други членове на кабинета.

Нападението идва по-малко от месец преди предсрочните избори в страната на 1 ноември и на фона на нова вълна на конфликти между властите и ПКК през последните месеци след като примирието между тях беше прекратено през юли. От тогава над 140 души от турските сили за сигурност и полиция са били убити, докато според Анкара убитите кюрдски бойци са 1700.
